Amazon
This is our 'Amazon lawn' we discovered had grown while we were away. What must our neighbors be thinking now...first a field of dandelions, now towering, unruly grass. The second attempt to reseed our lawn evidently worked!
Perfect time for bubbles, obviously.

Maui
For those who actually check this blog regularly, you've likely noticed that we haven't posted for a while. We took a much needed vacation to Maui, and let me tell you, there is nothing like a week of nothing to do, nowhere to go, and no one to meet with. Grandma Nishida came too, much to our delight (especially Miya's...she loves her grandma!).
Here's a picture of our beautiful accomodations...2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a kitchen/living area. Kitchens can tell you a lot about a place, don't you think?
The temperature was in the high 70s, low 80s all week...we couldn't have asked for better weather.
We saw some beautiful sights...
These pictures were taken on route to Hana...though we'll not recommend this "Road to Hana" trip to those with young children. Miya had a rough ride back home because of all the twists and turns in that road (so did mom, if the truth be told). She went through 3 sets of chothes after losing her "lunch" a couple of times. Poor Miya. Multiple emergency pull-overs made for a VERY long ride home. But look how happy she was OUTSIDE the car!
This is inside the car...And no, Miya never sucks her thumb (except for the 'accidental' sucking in those first few weeks outside the womb), but I guess she figured it might help keep everything down. But it didn't...
Miya loved the beach.
And she particularly enjoyed being in the water.
It was interesting to see how different the sand was from beach to beach (golden, muddy, black, and even red sand beaches). At this particular spot, the sand was so fine (partially from lava rock) that Miya didn't even spit it out after sticking it in her mouth...yucky, we know. We told her not to do it.
This was a trip we made to a park that is all one tree, a banyan tree, spread out over the entire park. Pretty neat....
Our Iao Needle trip was cool and breezy, but fun. We even made friends with some German tourists, who we ran into again later on our trip.
The plane ride home went well, and Miya even slept a little. We are still recovering from our vacation, however, and can't seem to wake up and get organized before the morning is half over. That 6-hour time difference has taken its toll...but I'm sure we'll survive!

Champions
We are happy to report that we both finished the mini marathon, without major injuries, and with smiles on our faces! We started in corral 'U'...which means we were toward the very back of this mob of people. The start of the race was like the old Atari game "Frogger" We were the frogs, and the walkers were the cars.
It was partly cloudy throughout the race and the temperature was in the high 50s, low 60s which made for a perfect run. We are proud to report - not only did we finish, but we ran the whole thing! We didn't plan on running the whole thing (quite frankly 13.1 miles seemed a bit overwhelming due to our underwhelming attempt at training), but mile 6 passed, mile 8 passed, mile 10 passed, and before we knew it we were at mile 12. Pretty good considering our max run before the race was 5 miles (Jacob) and 6 miles (Michelle). We definitely plan on running it again next year. Come out and join us!
